User-Contributed Transcription You ask if there are not many trials in being treated with contempt for the lack of the 'Almighty-dollar', of course, much; but not so much among Students themselves. Among Students generally it is not money, but worth, to be sure, they may reckon worth after different & odd standards, but wealth alone is not it. But I must say that as much cannot be said for the College government. It is not young men that worship the dollar. I have got pretty well disgusted with College government. I doubt much if they ever get me on their Stage. if I have to start for Wisconsin or Oregon before Commencement '47 to avoid it. There is no mistake about it. the monied fellow has much the advantage with them, as in fact every where else in the world. One can see it in every thing, recitation, lectures, priveleges etc. They must secure you know the favor & the influence of the wealthy and the great. No matter for the injuries or complaint of those not big enough to make any noise. choke them off. You say you cannot write much. Why not? If you have not pen & ink, you ought to have, and time enough too to write to your children.Do write to me often. Make Eliab write me a long letter before he goes back to Bangor; it will do him good. He is the negligent. He has not written to me- I hardly know when. I wish you all know how much I want to know how every thing gets along there at home. How I should like to help Charles cut that hay. I'll stop and put this in P.O. Do write to I.S.
