User-Contributed Transcription and if he goes so far that his friend cannot put any confidence in him, is little hope -- no hope, except in an immediate reform.  And yet that reform is easy if it only attempted.  Do you remember the story I told you of young Clark of Foxcrop, who fell into bad company when he came to college, went on from bad to worse, until he got so far disgraced as to be sent away from college.  Yet he has force of character, although under many discouraging circumstances, to see the consequences of his conduct, and to reform; to determine to do better and to carry out his determination.  He is now doing well, gaining character and reputation.  You may think that the peculiar circumstances of your situation prevent you from doing as well as you otherwise would.  I believe every one has his peculiar trials and temptations.  You doubtless have.  But then think of your advantages, your means of success, which often, so many men are destitute of.  You may have been unfortunate in some in some of your training and education, but think how much better off you have been than most others.  You are surrounded by kind friends who most desire your best interest.   You may think your father is unpleasant fretful and unwilling to give you the advantages you desire, but still you would say yourself that he really loves you and wishes to act for your best interest.  Your mother is one who if any could well [[?]] that first and dearest of places.   Your sister is I think one in whom you can well put confidence.  A sister is indeed a young man's best confidant and surest friend, and happy is the young man who has such an one as yours.  She should be your confidant and friend and advisor.  No one will will feel a kindlier interest or better advice.  Do now Charles determine to do well and always persevere in a good resolution.  I wish your father would think best to send you off to school somewhere, but he thinks it would not do to send you away from home.  You know is is not strange he should not put confidence in you.  So you have only to determine to   his confidence.  Show him that you can do well, and be worthy of his (conf)trust [[?]].
