My Dear Friend,
I rec'd yours of the 16th ultimo and read it with the greatest pleasure; and sincerely thank you for your favor. It gives me unfeigned satisfaction to see a person enjoying and improving such talents and advantages as you possess. Tis then man seems to aim at those stations of usfulness and honor for which Heaven designed him, and to which, his own temporal Happiness most alluringly invites him. This is the brightest side of human nature. The unfortunate [[alone?]] can appreciate such a favor or tell how much it serves to reanimate and encourage a person in my condition. It is like an Oasis to the weary traveller, on the scorching sands of Sahara buffetted by the withering blasts of the Simoom. It inspired the not altogether latent desire to arise and stem the current of adversity, and reassured my feeble resolutions. It gives me pleasure to hear that you have advanced so far under so happy auspices. Is is no misfortune to you
