User-Contributed Transcription Mrs Gould, and Mrs Robinson with their husbands. They have come with the intention of settling permanently in this part of our Territory. They are a welcome addition to our society at the 'grove.'
We have accounts of a very large crop of grain throughout the states. Here our crop is rather lighter than usual on account of the drouth in the spring. The corn crop is heavy, though rather late, and stands a chance of being injured by frost.
Political matters in the Territory wear a similar phase to those in the states. We have three candidates for delegate to Congress. Rice, Nebraska, Olmstead, Anti-Nebraska Democrats and Marshall Republican. The Whig party as a party, is defunct about half of the former Whigs going for Marshall, the other half for Rice.
Rice will probably be elected, but his election can not be claimed as a Nebraska triumph as the Hennepin Co democrats and other Anti-Nebraska democrats will vote for him on local grounds.
In a recent No of the New York Independent, Mr Thomson [[one?]] of editors favors us with an interesting letter from Maine, giving at the same time
