Mr. Metcalf
                     Dear Sir
Yours of the 9th and the report of the Engineer upon the N.C.R.R. was duly received for which you have my thanks.
About a situation here I would say that the directors have concluded to commence only a part of the road just at present and there seems to be more Engineers on the line already than enough to do the Engineering on the part which they propose to start Hence the chance of a situation for any more as you will readily see is small.
As to informing you about a situation elsewhere Mr. A. R. Fields has charge of the Greenfield Branch but of the disposition that he intends to make about assistance I do not know, but which you can easily find out by writing him. But perhaps the most lucrative situation that I can inform you off is down in New Brunswick. I have received two letters from Fielding Neale Chief Engineer of the St. Andrews and Quebec Rail Road making me an offer (which I shall not accept) to take charge of 20 miles of road which as far as I am concerned I will transfer to you.   I think that if you find your own Transit and drawing insts. the will pay you a salary of $1300 or $1600 per year
