Mrs White, governess of the Winstead children. A young English widow. Husband was a naval engineer stationed at Malta for some years, this lady was educated partly in a convent. Husband died in Scotland two years ago. She has a little girl  born just after her husbands death. Her father now a brass founder in St Louis.
A very intelligent, as well as well educated English Lady in her criticisms of matters, persons & things on this side of the water, as well as accounts of things on other side, really quite interesting. 4 hours talk, till Freeport, where I left by Galena & Chicago Union at 10 oclock.
