Cloudy cool Rose at 5 3/4
As usual. Church. Miss Ann Harlow's funeral at noon, then S.S. adjourned. Prof. Smith is to be our teacher now, I believe.
P.M. Sermon, subject on the death of two members of the church and S.S. laterly. Miss M. Tupper and Miss A. Harlow, interesting rather
Eve, staid at home, writing letter to Milo &c. bed at 10 or so

Mon. Nov. 4th
Fair cool Rose at 4
Read, study, chores, breakfast, wood etc. till about 7 1/2 busy
It has been cloudy for more than a week, but no rain yet
Very warm, dry weather for the season. All pump on cisterns dry. most
James received a newspaper (Temperance Journal) from I.M. Metcalf
Finished letter to Milo. School as usual. Eve. Com. Prussian History

Tues. Nov. 5th
Fair, Cold. frosty Rose at 5 1/2
about 5 1/2, James and I were awakened by a cry that the house was on fire. Mr. et Mrs. Walker had got up just before, they saw a light in the kitchen, but concluded that I was up and went to making a fire in the dining room, but on going into the kitchen afterward they found it in a blaze most fire had caught in the ash oven from hot ashes, the top of the place, was of plank. it spred, burnt up the over door, most of firebound, mantel peice etc. James and I strapped on our pants and went over, we succeeded in extinguishing it without much difficulty in a short time - Chores etc
After breakfast, greasing the waggon, tacking horse and so forth for James going to Th[[?]]cock, he got started about 7 3/4. Up stairs writing in journal &c. get ready and downtown. School &c.
After recess, the airpump was overhauled and both philosophy classes called. A variety of experiments, both useful and entertaining neither performed during the time usually allotted to Geography and Philosophy.
Noon gave a letter to Milo to N. Hollis
Read Lowell Mercury. As usual. -
