User-Contributed Transcription (3)Fall Creek where there was water & pine trees & there we ate our dinner under those pines on the bank of that foaming rushing mad Creek in one of the most beautiful spots there is-After dinner we laid down to rest a while - I went across the creek on a fallen log & found a blazed trail. The first I had ever seen --We thought that would probably be the easiest way down so we followed it, & got home much quicker than we had expected, about 4 oclock. On the way down we found another mine - only a month old. There were 4 men working there laying up a pile of logs to make charcoal. It was so far from the track & so high that it was cheaper they said to make their own coal Especially as the ground is covered there with fallen pine logs & some half burnt-I never was so tired since I can "rember" (sic) as I was when we got home - My head ached terribly & I ate for supper a cup of hot water & a piece of cheese - Then G.S. got the tub & some water & I took a bath and came out new and am not even stiff this morning. The only way you can get a bath at this "Mason House" is to go to the kitchen & get a wash tub & take it to your room & carry your own water - Many of the men never take the trouble. After a few days of just washing in the wash room, hands & face alone, with the rest of the miners, I could stand it no longer & invested
