User-Contributed Transcription Bangor June 13 54De Quoin July 1 54 Tuesday night June 13, 1854. {Bangor}My dearest Isaac, Your letter written at Virginia Hotel, St. Louise, June 4 - reached here yesterday having been just one week on the way -came with speed did it not? Don't I wish they would all come so. O how good it is to see your hand writing when letters come. I am very glad you felt so finely - so little fatigued on reaching St. Louis. I do not wonder you fell asleep on the sabbath - after your night journeyings. By this time you are absorbed again in R.R. matters. I hope to know soon where your stopping place is to be - office etc. Our long anticipated journey East all past - can it be? And you so far away from me & our little Mayo baby as can be. Don't get too much absorbed. Mr. Shepherd said in his remarks last sabbath - "God says, ' let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.' Mammon says, 'Let everything that hath muscle, dig.'" Said people gave themselves no time comfortably to sleep or healthfully to eat. It was a plain, pointed sermon to business men a most Excellent one. Lucy and I went together in afternoon.
