User-Contributed Transcription Dunbarton, Jan. 19, 1850.Will my friend please accept my thanks for the beautiful and valuable book just presented? I had never seen it before. It will certainly afford much pleasure and instruction in connection with the perusal of Shakspeare - I do not progress very rapidly in reading Shakspeare as my time for reading is quite limited at present. I have been absent from home so much, that now, parents, brothers and sister claim considerable of my time. And besides, I am reading each play twice, and now shall add to this Mrs. Jamison's "Characteristics." - The art of discerning between the good and bad, in the books we read, is of great importance; is it not sometimes a very difficult thing - So often does error appear in the garb of truth, and so much buried truth is there, amidst the rubbish of error.The feelings expressed in your letter are reciprocated. If visiting me, or writing to me, can increase, in any degree your enjoyment, I should be happy to have you do so. I do not expect to find friends
