User-Contributed Transcription the business of sermoning, already. He began writing sermons before he went from home, during his vacation, merely for the sake of trying. We were quite amused, as well as gratified, at his apparent enthusiasm. He writes that he has "purchased a volume entitled "The Pulpit Encyclopaedia, and Christian Minister's Companion", containing 360 skeletons and sketches of sermons, and 32 essays on Biblical learning, Theological studies, and the Composition and Delivery of Sermons, containing 611 pages." I hope he will be as much in earnest to gain that experimental and spiritual knowledge which is indispensible to the faithful, effectual preacher.Oct. 8 Wednesday} Four days have passed since I have written a word. Monday was washing day, as usual, and Tuesday ironing, and a meeting in the afternoon, and beside uncle was here until Tuesday morning - so I did not have so much time as I sometimes have. - Indeed I did not try so hard to find time, as I should, had I not dispatched a letter to Illinois, only a few days before yours came. I hope that has reached you before this. Another thing makes me busy this week- I am copying for father into a new book his Record of texts, with the date of the day on which the sermon therefrom was preached. There's a long list I assure you. He has been so long in one place that he has not the
