User-Contributed Transcription the Arbutus, and Garden Violet, have sprung up as if by magic - all in full bloom - seeming more enchantingly beautiful than ever, after the long winter we have had. How interesting it must be to have those European refugees in your company. I am glad you told me about them. If you come East soon, will you not be quite likely to encounter Kossuth somewhere on the way? I hope you will. It will be quite an event to me to see someone who has seen Kossuth. I rejoice that the course of Temperance seems advancing in Jonesboro. May rich blessings attend your efforts, and those of others, to aid the cause. So your beautiful horse is dead. We all sympathize - and we know how - for, a short time since, father lost a beautiful and valuable horse, which we all prized and loved. So we learned "how dear a thing without a soul can be." He had a cough, and pined away as if in consumption. He really seemed to have more affection and heart, than some human beings. His head was laid on father's shoulder whenever he could manage to get it there. Father paid $115 for him, when a colt, and he had always been a pet with us all.
