Sometimes instead of high banks we pass level bottom lands with great flocks of sheep now and then feeding industriously a little back from the river - hordes cattle and pigs too - and they come to drink at the rivers brink. Occasionally we pass a steamboat and by way of recognition hats and crossed out: handkerchiefs wave arms swing -- and then it is pleasant to watch the receding boat till its great black chimneys disappear and the cloud of smoke vanishes.
