User-Contributed Transcription Cedar Grove Milo 6th Aug. 1850My Dear Daughter, Will you please to however that this ink is very poor so that I can hardly make my marking legible to myself & yesterday I did for Joseph with this same pen and ink mark a letter to Mr. Isaiah Dole do you think he can read it, if he cant wont it be good enough for writing such a scrawl as he did to Joseph. Well I give it up for a bad job & must stop writing unless with a pencil till we can get some ink - what a long spell of heat Monday weather we do have - but the corn, the vines and tomatos do grow finely. Now are you coming up or are you not we do want you should come very much, but if you cant or if you wont, let us know it so that we need'nt strain our eyes out alooking. Charles has not done haying yet lest he should fail of having his money to pay for help in haytime he paid his help beforehand Mr. Boabar, Richer, & Welch boy therefore get disappointed of them all but Richer who has come now a fortnight after the time but they'll get done next week I suppose. I strongly purpos'd to send you some raspberries but all the folks said I could not. Aint you glad I have borrow'd a bottle of Almeda's ink dont forget to send us a bottle of neat good ink, i.e. tell Eliab to fetch us some. 7th. We have just received your letter good girl to write but I do feel disappointed that you are not coming home & can hardly make myself believe it it seems as if Lucy was old enough to keep house one week & you & Jane come up you complain about not writing but I thought we had written to
