User-Contributed Transcription feeling so little desire or care for the fashions and follies of the worldI had a good letter from Maria yesterday she is a really good little person. Eliab has really got a very good wife I do think & I think so more & more, I like her very much better than I expected - How thankful I ought to be (hope I am some) that you & Eliab are so bless'dEliab has made me "Member of the Maine Miss Society and Sam'l has made Lucy a Member also are not they good boys - Anna is at Brownville will probably be there about two weeks longer then she rather espects to be here till about the first of august & to start for Chicago the middle of AugustThe season has been very favorable the Crops look better than usual vegetation earlier by about 2 weeks than common C. says he has never seen so much grain on the ground at this time of the year since he has liv'd here as now, he has 3 acres of Corn & potatos planted three acres of wheat & oats and three acres of Buckwheat - he has a young man at work for him 17 years old brother to Mrs. Ricker - middling good help.Lucy Searles had been at Foxcroft School the last term was very fleshy & healthy when she went but I guess she studied hard (she never could learn easy as my children could) and she had a poor boarding place - At Mr. Pauls was too retiring and bashful didn't get enough of decent and wholesome food to eat for some time before she returned was not well probably more unwell than she was aware of herself She wrote that she wants to come home but they did not get the letter at first her Father went after her about a week before school clos'd they called her and took dinner & said nothing about
