User-Contributed Transcription Mother Elyria OhioMarch 12-18, 1856 Elyria March 12th / 56My Dear Son I have been thinking a good deal about you of late, as usual. Shall feel a little more anxious as I doubt not you do because of your not knowing exactly what is to be your future course or place of residence - you could settle down in Dunbarton or in almost any other place. And if faithful as a Christian be useful & happy. But it seems to me that with your knowledge of western life you might & ought with your experience your ability & your energy of Will & Character to take upon you the battle of life in some place where you can do the most good. There is a trait or spot or whatever you please to call it in you which inclines you to settle down below what you might and ought to attain to ("come honestly by it,, perhaps, Charles and Almeda also) you ought to guard against it. One way is to strive for such a position in life that you will be call'd upon - necessitated - to act I dont meant physically, only but Morally Intellectually. It is not right for you to think that you may live only for yourself & your family. Not that I think you do so more than others but that
