User-Contributed Transcription Hattie is having a fine time seems to enjoy her stay here very much it is amusing to see how observant sheis of some things, she already knows the names andfaces of more young men & women and girls too in this place than somewould in seven years with the same opportunity.But it is not so easy for her to think to learn& know what she has learn'd - I guess she is very aptto forget what she has learn'd - she & all of us are thinkingnow to have her try to get into the high school - I very muchfear that she cannot pass a regular examination for some things required she has not attended to - Eliab thinks itmay be that he can get her in from having LawyerHumphrey who is one if the committee in his interest or thro his means somehowEliab & Maria are quite interested in Hattie & are tryingto help her E. asks her a great many questions in Geography& other thing that she cannot answer but calculated to learnher to think as he says - I have had several promises of lettersfrom Anna but they don't come - I don't know as I ought to write so freely about it. My only reason is that ye may all be the better able to advise her
