User-Contributed Transcription Mother BangorSept. 21 1856DunbartonI thank you my dear good boy for your good long letter to me & to Eliab of 16th & Sam'l of the 18 O that I could do or say any thing to comfort you my Dear Children Sorely afflicted indeed you are poor Nettie but let me remind her to be thankful that you are spar'd to her - from my own experience I can feel that the loss of all her dear children would be lighter than that - I shall feel very anxious till I hear that she is recovered I have many fears too for your Mother Putnam she is so feeble But those dear beautiful boys I feel deeply my own loss & feel it doubly in feeling it for you too - But let it serve to lessen the cords that bind us to Earth & fix our thoughts more intently on that dear home where all tears are wiped away & the inhabitants shall no more say I am sickI can hardly imagine where your sick have all been located - none up stairs I suppose?
