User-Contributed Transcription Feb. 14 1857 BangorDuQuoin, Mar 5Bangor FebMy Dear Son IsaacI had a good letter from you a few days since & tuesday, came yours to Eliab. I rejoice that your town is progressing so finely. It seems likely to be quite an oasis in that land of darkness. If you should conclude to stay there I think it quite likely that C. would be for going there too. Sam'l says if he were in Charles place he should leave Milo he thinks he could do better than to remain there another year says perhaps he shall coax him off to Minnesota - But it will be hard work for him to move anywhere because Albina has so little energy & fortitude about it I dont see how he can get along there it seems that he is running behind hand every year - has us'd up a great part of the money he brought from Ill. His ability or strength for labor is growing less & his family more expensive. However I feel perfectly easy about it to have him stay or go - Sam'l seems now divided to take P.P. with him but I mean to try to persuade him to leave him with me - with us
