User-Contributed Transcription 14th Feb 1857Baby being sick & Maria daily expecting to be E. sent a "telagram" to Mary Ely at Hartford, She arriv'd here last evening - I think Sam & Ely will come in the spring & this will be the home for them all & a very good home it will be. E. will fix up & ornament the grounds and make it beautiful - It makes me think of dear Lucy & all her pleasing anticipations But I would not - that she should be here if the thing were possible - I have some fears for Eliab alone in a business involving a hundred thousand a year I'm afraid he'll shall need Sam'l for at least a part to lean upon If he does succeed in clearing away all his difficulties paying all yours & every thing it will be almost wonderful wont it? Sam'l came back from N.H. last monday has been gone about 3 weeks visiting his cousins & second cousins He is now & will probably be for a month to come occupied as jury man - in a good time for him as
