User-Contributed Transcription Mr. S. says each acre of his land is as good as 150, at interest is'nt it strange that land is so productive here when it is so rocky & hard - But the people work as Gilman Rider does I suppose & they have a real good market for every thing at Manchester & produce is very high - higher than at BangorIt seems as if the Boys, Charlie & Josie ought to be in school but I am very glad they do not go as it is - But I hope you will both take pains to learn them at home & it is better not to be done all in set lessons but incidentally every hour & almost every minute may admit of some question ask'd on precept enforced if your own minds are not too much taken up with work & every thing - you can do a good deal in that way - but I constantly would not try to have Charlie understand what he reads at present - I think that is the reason that he has been so slow to get the sounds & the combination of the letters I want they should learn to kind & polite to each other & to every bodyMrs. Putnam is a most perfect patron of ladylike politeness & kind attention to every body it is a great thing for a parent to have every word look & action such as ought to be imitated by child
