User-Contributed Transcription Cedar Grove, Milo, March 19th 1854Albina is writing so I must just say a word to tell you we are well and liking to "spring out" nicely. Sam'l says the snow was all of 5'feet deep in the roads till 2 days of warm weather in the last week settled it some - but yesterday it snow'd & blow'd again today the roads are blocked up with hard drifts.Charlie is learning to read some but it requires all the coaxing strategies I can muster to keep up our interest in it somedays he seems very much engag'd & then again it is hard work - He can, read off favourably well in two syllables and in reading words of 3 or 4 letters. He waits up on the table when there is no other man here with considerable grace & dignity - took it up of his own hand - & insist upon the privilege with some pertinuaty ever since James went away he has split up his kindling wood at night & got up & built the fire - with being told. Those warm days he was marching round on the snowdrifts on a pr of wooden snow shoes that Sumner & he rigg'd up - Joseph got well very quick after he was sick. He eats very hearty & his cheeks really stick out he is so fat now. Little Mary does not talk but can make herself understood, is very old for her age, sits up in her dinner chair & feeds herself at table.[at top upside down] Much love to Isaac & Antoinette and the little Du Coign Mayo How I do want to see the little fellow & all the rest of you.
