User-Contributed Transcription Dear brother I intended to write you a good long letter in return for the ones I have not received from you but Mother and the rest have written about all the news and I do not feel in the mood for giving advice or for 'sentimentalities' and besides have but little time: About myself I can write nothing very encouraging. I suppose you have heard all about the Foxcroft business which truly resulted much to my satisfaction. I suppose too you know too that I spent three weeks at Mr. Pomroy's first before and after his departure & about the time Joseph went there - my going there at the time was rather accidental but as one consequence Mary P. spends the summer here and possibly another consequence may be my taking a private school at Bangor next fall, - there is a very good opening for one near the Baptist meeting house the chief obstacle in the way is the lack of a suitable room. I do not place much dependence upon it - am undetermined in case that should fail whether to go to Boston and strenuously try for a chance in that region or go to the far est with Mary Savage when she returns (she is expected with her husband this summer. Joseph has got into exactly the right spot at last, has he not? Eliab seems well suited I saw him frequently while there: Lucy 'likes pretty well but was sorry not to be at home this summer studying French with Mary P. I keep school three hours a day for Mary and Almeda's children. Mary attends to drawing, French and writing also needlework. Almeda & children are well and getting along comfortably. Marcia Edes and Susan Tucker are teaching the schools that Eliab taught last winter I invited them to visit me and accordingly they came last Sat. walked over in the afternoon and back again at night expect they rode with Albina Kittredge as far as the mills: took considerable pains didnt they?
