User-Contributed Transcription Cedar Grove Oct. 7 1850J.M. to I.S. A natural east & flowing Style constitutes a principle Beauty of Epistolary correspondence. The Oats of Mr. Ricker, as you have been inform'd, were deposited in Charles's Barn floor. the Machines of one Fogg as here nearly one and a half days & thresh'd them to the amount of 102 bushels it also thresh'd 10 bushels of C's Oats & his 16 of wheat. Mr. R. deposited his Oats in the above floor. Charles sold one red Cow to Mr. Friscell for 15$, also the whit Cow for 13 1/2. Smallest Heifer for 11, in all cases Cash down & no grumbling. Almeda has lost her nice yearling Heifer suppose it has gone off with somebody's herd to Brighton. Mr. Henry Sargent has swapped Farms and is going to move over to Orneville onto the Farm at the Corner South of Abner Hoxies where Elder Lord & Wm Farriss liv'd. His name is Caton who is to come to Uncle Henry's place. The season of Botanizing is overpast in lien thereof I now employ myself in the education of youth A free Banking Law, on the N.Y. System, as it is call'd, has been refer'd by the Last to the next Legislature, to be in the meantime Submitted to the Bank Commissioners, & publish'd in the Newspaper that suggestions to alter and improve might glow in from all quarters. The Laws in relation to Common School have been superseded by a new Act which reconstructs the whole System embracing several entirely new provisions.Oct. 12 Yours of 6 received yesterday. Mr. Sargent intends to move as soon as the ground shuts up. Joseph L Sargent has got a boy. Your former scholar Walter Sturtivant is Married to
