User-Contributed Transcription Dear Brother Was not you disappointed with my piece of a letter?While I was gone to my traps they sent it away without my knowledge as I meant to tell you Marabah Hill borrowed 4 Traps and set them in the intervale catched but 2 muskrat so he got sick of the bargain and let me the traps and I set them and caught 7 so now I have got 8 skins and 2 cat and a fox skinswill you be so good as to find out what they bring we have done all the ploughing but that over east and have burnt off the piles and picked up the brands and have got out most of the manure. we recieved a letter from Joseph last week he has sent me 2 youth companions and I expect that he will send each number we recieved your letter last saturday Willis Porter he said that it had 'been thare an awful spell" Joseph says that he has to rise at 5 oclock, and he has the least time to study or read that he ever had in any situation whatever I study evenings so learn to spell and work we have shut up 4 of the turkeys but we do not expect that they will get fat for thanksgiving yesterday I went agunning up to boobar brook to find some partridges but I could not see one Eliab W MetcalfI have got a box (20 or 25 lbs of very nice butter which you may sell if you can at the very highest price if the market is dull & butter very low you may wait a while before you sell it if you think best I dont know as you will like to "peddle out,, the one pair of pants but you can I guess take 'em to to some little shanty or "board a coaster & you'll sell 'em they're very stout and such as laborers want. I should be very glad if it had happened so that you could be at home "thanksgiving,, but as it is I would by no means advise you to leave before your quarter is out & especially as you did before. I guess I shall send you cloth enough for jacket & pants and you can get them cut &
