Biographical/Historical Note
South Carolina planter, Indian fighter, and politician. A representative of Berkeley and Craven counties in the assembly, 1706-1708, Moore led South Carolina troops against the Tuscarora in 1713, and served as lieutenent-general during the Yamassee War in 1715. When the proprietary government was overthrown in 1719, Moore served as governor until Francis Nicholson arrived in 1721 with a royal commission to govern the province.
