Summary
Memorandum, dated March 6, 1807, written by Governor Morgan Lewis to the New York legislature concerning the purchase of Indian lands in western New York. In this letter Lewis informs the legislature that he has contracted with the Cayuga tribe to buy 3,200 acres of their land at $1.50 per acre. Lewis mentions that Jasper Parish, a local Indian agent, was instrumental in negotiating this purchase. Further, Lewis reports that the Oneida Indians have offered for sale about 20,000 acres of their reserved lands.
