User-Contributed Transcription As you can see, we are away on a motoring trip. We
have to get away from it all every simmer, usually just
rolling on highways from one motel to another. While the
astronauts were orbiting around the moon, the Medfords were
orbiting around the great lakes- around Ontario, mostly. We
went to Canada first by way of Detroit. we stopped in Stratford,
Ontario for two days. We saw an excellent production of
Tartaffe[?] there. We stayed overnight in Toronto, another night
in Kimpton[?], & then visited a couple we know in Syracuse,
N.Y. Then last night we slept here, in Saratoga. (We were here
once before, about 3 years ago, & at that time we gave a brief
onceover of your old hangout, Yaddo.
One of Anne's brothers just returned from spending two
weeks in Ireland. We are looking forward to seeing him some
time (in a month or two) to hear about his trip. When are
you going back to Ireland for another visit?
I believe that the trip to the moon was a great
demonstration of technology, but an enormous waste of money.
Velben[?] never saw such an example of "conspicuous waste".
This seems about the ultimate in that category.
Aren't you sorry about Teddy Kennedy's tragic
accident? I hope it will not prove to be his political
downfall. Whom will we have to support to beat Nixon
in his try for a second term?
Well, I'm writing this while I'm sitting in the car.
It's about time for us to start rolling again- probably
in a bee-line for Chicago. We will probably (about 85%
probably) have to move in the next month or so; if we do we guess
we'll have to live on the N. Side. We'll try to find an apartment
not more than 15 minutes' drive away from my new school. We hate
to leave the S. side, in spite of the gangs, etc. there. We'll never be
able to get as nice an apartment there that we can afford, either. Hope you
are both well, & that you are doing lots of profitable writing.
Give our best regards to Gladys,
Cordially yours,
Warren Medford
