Mo. My father and several of
his brothers lived along the R.R
in and around small towns like
Brownwood, Sturdevant, etc. And
when Woodrow Wilson ran against
Hughes for President along with
Debs for a socialist president, one of
my uncles, Ozza, by name, was the
leading Republican vote getter in
Sturdivant, Mo.; I was 10 years at
the time and all I can
remember about the election was
that, Ozza was afraid of the
socialist vote; he feared Debs
was going to defeat Hughes. It
was the socialist vote in
Brownwood, Mo., 7 miles away that
had him, frightened.
