Summary May 25, 1813, letter from Rhea to the Secretary of War, John Armstrong, requesting payment for Col. John Williams and his Tennessee volunteers who had marched through the Carolinas and Georgia to raid Seminole villages in northern Florida. During the three-week February attack which was in response to Indian raids on Georgia settlements, the troops burned houses, destroyed crops, and seized livestock. Rhea asks that the soldiers be paid prior to a planned Independence Day celebration in Knoxville.

Biographical/Historical Note Democratic member of Congress from Tennessee, 1803-1815 and 1817-1823.
