Summary March 21, 1818, letter from Charles Tait to David Brydie Mitchell, Creek Indian agent, notifying him that the U.S. Senate had ratified the Jan. 22, 1818, treaty Mitchell negotiated with the Creek Indians. Tait discusses Georgia's acquisition of 2,500,000 acres through this treaty and another concluded with the Cherokee Indians the previous summer. He also informs Mitchell that it is the policy of the federal government to remove all Indian tribes west of the Mississippi as soon as possible, that Congress has appropriated funds to repair the road from Fort Hawkins to Fort Stoddard, and that he intends to move to Alabama.
