Summary March 17, 1818, letter from David Butler to former N.Y. lieutenant governor John Tayler, regarding Mary Doxtater, a New Stockbridge Indian who had asked Butler to write on her behalf. A teacher to her tribe, Doxtater feared that her civilizing efforts would be undone by the plan of some Stockbridge Indians to gain the legislature's permission to dispose of their N.Y. lands and "remove into the wilderness."  Butler urges Tayler to use his influence to prevent the move and to have "benevolent" men appointed to superintend the tribe's affairs.
