Summary August 20, 1767, letter from Massey at Quebec to Sir William Johnson, presumably at Johnson Hall, recommending a Major Hughs to succeed the current deputy agent to the Canadian Indians, Christian Daniel Claus, whose desire to vacate his office was rumored. Massey also writes of his high opinion of Gen. Guy Carleton, his desire to send his sons among the Indians, and the government's relations with the Caughnawaga Indians. 
Biographical/Historical Note Irish soldier. An officer in the 27th or Inniskilling Regiment of Foot for most of his long military career, Massey served with Sir William Johnson on the Niagara expedition in 1759.
