November 17, 1778, letter from Gov. Clinton to Brig. Gen. Edward Hand, who had earlier assumed command of the Continental Army at Albany, responding to Hand's news of the "disagreeable accounts from Cherry Valley." Earlier that month, Indians serving with the British forces attacking Fort Alden had slipped away and massacred a number of Cherry Valley settlers. Clinton also notes that he would forward Hand's letter, as requested, to Gen. Washington.
