Summary
November, 15, 1784, letter from Patrick Langan, secretary of the British Indian Department in Montreal, to Sir John Johnson, superintendent general and inspector general of the Six Nations Indians, regarding news relayed by David (David Hill?) of the council between the U.S. and the Six Nations at Fort Stanwix. Langan discusses the land cessions agreed to and the detention of Aaron Hill and others as hostages until all prisoners were released. There is also an excerpt from the American commissioners' concluding speech warning that "a bad wind will soon blow from the north" and a report of Lafayette's Oneida village visit and speech concerning a French alliance. Langan also relays Joseph Brant's views on the proceedings.
