Summary Letter written by Zachary Johnson, Mohegan regent, to Richard Law on May 30, 1781. In this letter to Law, a trustee of the Mohegan Indians and a member of the Connecticut General Assembly from 1776-1786, Johnson relates "the unaccountable spoils and devastation committed by Strange Indians and disorderly white People, on the Mohegan Lands." Johnson requests that Law seek the assistance of the General Assembly to rectify these matters.

Biographical/Historical Note Zachary Johnson, Mohegan Indian, was the principal councilor to the last Mohegan sachem, Ben Uncas. Following Uncas's death in 1769, Johnson became regent of the Mohegan tribe, a position he held until his own death in Norwich, Conn. in 1787.
