Summary July 10, 1919, letter from Reed to Julia Cooley Altrocchi, an author, lecturer, and translator, regarding his progress in writing Tales of a vanishing river.  Reed also discusses and encloses a photograph of a half-Miami, half-Pottawatomi Indian girl, Nebowir, whose portrait he planned to use for one of the book's illustrations. 
Biographical/Historical Note Illinois author and artist. Born in Geneva, Ill., in 1863, Chicago resident Earl H. Reed wrote and illustrated several volumes on regional topics (Lake Michigan dunes, Kankakee River) and the art of etching.
