Summary
Promissory note, Aug. 14, 1848, providing a horse as security for $5.00 borrowed from the Stockbridge Indians. The note is witnessed by Bangor Theological Seminary graduate Jeremiah Slingerland, a minister, teacher, and treasurer to the tribe, which had settled on the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin during the 1830's.
