Dearest Katharine:
The glass on my picture of Mar[[?]]in did not arrive smashed; there was no sign of any lass. If it was smashed the post office department cleaned up the fragments. any way, it is a fine picture.

Have not read "Grapes of Wrath" yet. My name is on a waiting list for it at the public library. I specially enjoyed Steinbeck's "Cup of Gold", telling how the pirates captured the city of Panama in early colonial days. I did not care as much for "mice and men." though the best critics praise it. I am merely prejudiced against modern gangster dialect.

Remember C.L. Moulton very well, but not any of his sons. Never played chess with him: used to play with two men who lived at Lombard; have forgotten their names. Mr. Moulton and I were on the same side in village politics
