The scene is laid in "Altamont", which seems to mean Asheville, N.C., and the author introduces hundreds of characters, each with marked individuality. The hero is born in 1900, and the action of the story ends about 1920, but the book was published in 1930. The trouble with it for you is that it is about as long as those ordinary novels. It is mostly about a boy, the youngest of a large family, but my guess is that Malcolm and Marvin would not care much for it, because the hero was something of a genius, out of touch with the practical world. It has in it a good deal of socialism, such as would have been thought wicked in Victoria's time. When you have time for a long book, try to get hold of this.
Pattie's daughter must be a charming girl; I hope you have a visit from her later.
I still have my 30 shares of Celotex, and the latest quotation was a little over $20 a share; I sold 10 shares, as you may remember, at $8. I shall hold on to all the shares I have for the present. If the bonus bill passes as seems likely, with the provision for printing a billion or so for new money, it will be a pretty sum to "boos[[?]]" stocks. In any case the increase in building should help Celotex.
Ever so much love,
Father.
