Description Correspondence, writings, documents of Nathan Kendall and wife Abby J. Reed Kendall of Massachusetts, Indiana and Illinois, including many letters to each other before and after marriage in 1857, as well as numerous letters to and from members of their families, friends and former students. Some correspondence and documents concern travel to California begun in 1849.

Do what is best for yourself but remember whenever you feel you can make us a visit we shall be most happy to see you. You have asked me various questions, relative to myself, in your last letters which I cannot now particularly specify and to which I cannot now reply. One I will notice however at this time. I will open my heart to you in regard to the others when I see you. I can not well explain myself to you about them upon paper as I wish to ^ neither have I the time to do it at present. You ask me if I am making that intellectual and spiritual progress I desire to make, if I find time enough for mental and religious improvement. To which I must answer, no, by no means, no. The last two years' experience has proved quite different from what I expected when I came to St Louis.
