Many things have happened this year. Uncle Nick is engaged; our house has been rebuilt. Sister is much better, & I have been so sick. Where shall we be a year from to night? 12 O'Clock. has struck & the New Year has begun. The are firing the cannon! "The Old Year is dying, let him die!"

Here it is the middle of March & I have not written in my journal since New Years Eve; it is a great pity! We left New York January 5, & came via Washington, Richmond (where I was sick a week), Augusta, Savannah, Jacksonville, & finally Piccolata. -
