Dear J.C.,
Your good letter enjoyed. Thanks for your efforts to sell the booklet. Have you heard from Knopf? Shall be surprised if he doesn't take it.
I read the "plaint." Well -
The meeting last night was the best I've attended. Jerome was greatly a stabilizing influence. And he is full of bright ideas. Some bickering between Rahn and Spier, Miller not saying a word as usual. After the meeting, Stacy volunteered to us the story of the Round Robin - needless to say I didn't let on what I already knew & said the conspirators thought of getting me as a signer, in fact, he apologized for not approaching me & asking me to sign.
I feel that from now on N.Y. Repots will work together more harmoniously. However, I am convinced that the Miller - Rahn - Stacy fend against Spier will persist. I shamed say the trio is determined to humble Leonard to the dust. Jerome is sitting on the lid of the kettle.
Walt Su[[?]] phoned a few minutes ago to say he had lunched with Spier, & had won him over entirely to the idea of an editorial board. Good work! And Walt must be tired. He & I finished chewing the fat at 6 A.M. [The word :this is crossed out.]
One of the poems you did n ot like in my Mss. - and which was heared out - "Retroglance" - have you the copy I sent you? You did not return it with the four other rejects.
With regard to Harriet Hassell, can you tell me something about her? Is she a negress? What do you think of "Message"?
Well, J.C., au revoir & good luck.
At your service,
Fraternally,
Jack Ackerson
