Summary July 23, 1823, invoice for $25,509.56 of goods and supplies taken by A.P. Chouteau at St. Louis for trade with the Osage Indians and other tribes. Invoice lists item, quantity, and price for such merchandise as fabrics, blankets, beads, rifles and powder, kettles, scalping knives, vermillion, needles and thread, combs, feathers, traps, axes and hoes, and jewelry. Also "Boats, Horses Stores &c for the use of the Trade." The invoice is certified as correct, July 24, 1823, by B. Pratte & Co. There is also a "List of Hands and Clerks," presumably in the employ of A.P. Chouteau.

Biographical/Historical Note Fur trader and diplomat. Born in St. Louis and educated at West Point, A.P. Chouteau entered the fur trade business in 1807. In 1823 he purchased the trading house of Brand and Barbour at the convergence of the Verdigris, Arkansas, and Grand rivers in what would become Indian Territory. By 1830 Chouteau dominated the trade in that region, where he resided until his death in 1838.
