Synopsis of interview:
Part 1 -- Interview takes place in 2017
Opens with a discussion of Newhart's birthplace of Oak Park, IL, and his subsequent move to the Austin area of Chicago. This leads into a discussion of radio DJ Dan Sorkin from WCFL. Sorkin was friendly with Newhart, and helped him record his comedy. To do so, Newhart had to start playing larger venues, which were difficult to break into. He talks about the people he opened for, and the comedy bits he did.
