Description
Verso. Draft of an Indian petition, April 1, 1747, to an unnamed general assembly (probably Massachusetts), written from a fortification called "Number 2 on Connecticut River." This document, which was to be signed by Old Town and three others on "behalf of others," concerns the Indians' participation in the frontier war effort. The petitioners request a reward in return for clearing the enemy from the western settlements. They also ask the assembly whether they should remain in the deserted garrisons or burn them.
