Summary The well-known Specchio di croce, which appeared in ten different editions during the 15th century beginning in 1476, is arranged in 50 chapters. According to Cavalca, Christ assumed the corporal body of a man so that he could bring salvation to the world. Christ's love is an inspiration for man to live in love, humility, and charity; and the persecution, temptation, and suffering endured by Christ can serve as an example to man to conquer sin. Man can also use the image of the Cross as a guide to wisdom, piety, humility, and charity. Cavalca concludes with meditations on the beatitudes.
