Description Binding by T.J. Cobden-Sanderson at Doves Bindery; green goatskin with yapp for-edges, gold tooled pattern of tulips, rose leaves and hearts, edges gilt and gauffered. Signed and dated: The Doves Bindery 18 C-S 98. Former owner: General Alexander C. McClurg, who carried this book throughout his various campaigns during the Civil War. His "Brief sketch of the history of this copy of Palgrave's Golden treasury" precedes the text, signed and dated Chicago December 1896 (v leaves, ms.) On permanent exhibit at the Newberry's A.C. McClurg Bookstore
