Summary
April 4, 1868 order issued by the military headquarters of Montgomery, Alabama declaring the Ku Klux Klan a "public evil." The order bans all placards and newspaper cards of the Klan and that "the various sheriffs, mayors, marshals, magistrates, constables, chiefs of police, and police" will be held accountable for the suppression of the movement.
