User-Contributed Transcription Galena June 5th 1851We arrived at this place last evening at 9 o clockWe left Wingate week ago last Tuesday at noonstopd at Annie Smiths and Oliver Dover inBelvidere 4 days, have been all the remainder of thetime pulling our waggon through the mud it hasraind 1/2 the time since we arrived in Illinoisthe roads one part description some days we madebut 17 miles, hard work at thatMy team is true and good, no better that I eversaw my waggon is a common double waggonheavy enough to hold 30 hundred, my luggage 500our selves 600 or over making at least 1100 poundsmy colts have drawn that load through prairie mudand clay wheels down to forward hugs more than500 hundred times they never faild in a single instanceto go ahead I paid for them 150$ would not take$2,25; could have taken $200 several times, yourmother is some what fatigued owing more to blight than hard work
